Job Summary
The Substance Abuse Research Program (SARP) Research Associate will work closely with Dr. Carmen Masson, SARP research assistants, and study collaborators and partners, to help coordinate and support Dr. Massons’ research grants. Under the supervision of both Dr. Masson and the Program Administrator the individual will provide both clinical and research assistance through a variety of tasks, including: 1) aiding with participant recruitment, screening, consenting, enrollment, and retention; 2) surveying people experiencing homelessness who have opiate use disorder (OUD); 3) primary and secondary data collection and database management, and 4) attending project-related meetings and training. The individual will spend 60-80% of their time working/traveling in the San Francisco to complete the aforementioned tasks.

Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.
For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

Department Description
The Substance Abuse Research Program (SARP) Research Associate position is with Dr. Masson’s research team in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Services at the University of California, San Francisco and at Zuckerberg SF General Hospital (ZSFG). SARP promotes evidence-based addiction prevention and treatment services through NIH sponsored studies and through its affiliation with the Western States Node of the Clinical Trials Network. In addition, SARP is invested in the development of early career researchers in substance use and promoting researcher diversity in the addiction research field, hosting the NIDA-funded T32 Postdoctoral Training Program in Substance Use Disorders Treatment and Services Research and the NIDA-funded R25 Learning for Early Careers in Addiction and Diversity (LEAD) Program.
Required Qualifications
- HS graduation and sufficient experience and demonstrated skills to successfully perform the assigned duties and responsibilities or equivalent training/education.
- Must be able to travel to the SF Community for recruitment and retention and be willing and able to spend most of their work time in San Francisco’s Tenderloin neighborhood.
- Computer literate, fluent with software packages including WORD, EXCEL, and POWERPOINT.
- Superior interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work cooperatively and communicate effectively with others; good team member. Ability to work well under pressure and with deadlines, able to set priorities and work independently. Ability to follow oral and written instructions accurately; detail oriented.
- Superior verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated excellent attendance and reliability.
- Excellent documentation skills, ability to set priorities, work both independently and collaboratively, excellent follow-up, work well under pressure.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Excellent written skills. Demonstrated experience with writing, editing, proofreading, and revising/updating protocols and documents.
- Proven flexibility to adjust to constantly changing priorities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree with coursework in Psychology (or a related field such as Sociology) and Statistics.
- Experience working directly with people experiencing homelessness and/or people with OUD.
- Experience using data collection and survey instruments, e.g. RedCap.
- At least one-year minimum research experience, including experience with preparing study materials, recruiting and enrolling study participants, and data collection.
